Zinc Interior Architects is one of the most recognized design studios in Norway. Based in Oslo, the Zinc team specializes in creating spaces that not only look good but — more importantly — function. They often work on large-scale projects, but as they themselves emphasize: it’s not about the number of square meters — it’s about what you want to achieve with them.
This approach is especially close to our philosophy at VANK. That’s why the conversation with Therese Haaland Jonassen, interior architect and partner at Zinc, was particularly meaningful to us. Even more so because VANK_BIO acoustic panels were used both in the conference rooms of the Zinc office in Oslo and in high-profile projects.
We invite you to watch the interview:
Hi! My name is Therese. I am an interior architect and a partner at Zinc Interior Architects.
1. What are the key characteristics of Zinc and the projects you work on?
Therese:We work with tailor-made solutions for each client. We’re a tight-knit team, and we enjoy working together. We involve the client, inspire them, and get to know their needs to deliver the best possible outcome — holistic solutions that are aesthetic, functional, and sustainable.
We work on projects of various scales, often large and complex — mostly workplace interiors, but also education and hospitality environments.
2. What makes VANK acoustic panels different from other acoustic solutions?
Therese: The first thing that comes to mind is the material — it’s natural, visible, and honest. That makes the panels both sustainable and aesthetically pleasing. Their modular construction allows us to create custom layouts and compositions, giving us great freedom in design. We really appreciate being able to shape a pattern that matches the specific space and its character.
3. Why did you decide to use VANK panels in the KPMG office project?
Therese: The acoustic requirements at KPMG were very high. Almost every wall had to be covered with sound-absorbing material — so we needed a solution that was top-tier both functionally and visually. These panels delivered on both counts. The material itself — natural and visually light — fit perfectly with the project concept.
4. What surprised you about using VANK panels in your own office?
Therese: What surprised us most was the sense of warmth and softness they bring into the space. You can see the texture and authenticity of the material — nothing is overdone or artificial. The panels are subtle but have a big impact. And that’s what I like most about them — they’re real, honest, and natural.
At VANK, we believe that strong collaboration with architects is built on shared values and mutual trust. Meeting with Therese and working with Zinc is not only an honor, but also a confirmation that natural materials, functionality, and thoughtful design can go hand in hand.
We’re proud that VANK_BIO supports the everyday work of architects in Oslo — both in their own creative space and in projects for demanding international clients.
Thank you, Therese, for your time, openness, and inspiring conversation.
