The challenge:
The implementation of the project in a historic Haussmann building brought specific architectural challenges. The space beneath the Paris rooftops offers generous daylight and numerous hard surfaces, which in an open-plan office resulted in reverberation issues and a lack of acoustic privacy.
The client, operating in the transport technology sector, defined key requirements:
- Clear functional zoning: Creating dedicated areas for focused work and meetings without building permanent walls that would disrupt daylight and compromise the architectural lightness of the space.
- High-quality acoustics: Improving sound comfort without turning the open plan into a maze of enclosed, dark rooms.
- Creating an employee-friendly environment for teams returning from remote work, who expect not only desks, but comfort and high-quality conditions for meetings and collaboration.
Solution:
The key to success was defining zones using mobile and sustainable solutions. Instead of constructing permanent walls that would interrupt the flow of daylight from the beautiful arched windows, VANK acoustic systems were introduced.
- Quiet work and meeting zones: four acoustic booths from the VANK_ELLIPSE line were installed in 1-, 2- and 3-person configurations. VANK booths define areas for individual work and meetings. Glass fronts preserve natural daylight, while flax and hemp fibres add visual and acoustic warmth.
- Integrated equipment: each booth features built-in upholstered seating and a table, making it a fully functional workspace from the moment of installation.
- Design and function: the distinctive elliptical geometry of the external panels references circular forms and interacts naturally with the soft light entering through the arched windows, creating intimate “islands of silence” within the office.
- Additional acoustics: BIO panels provide extra sound-absorbing surfaces outside the booths, significantly improving acoustic comfort across the entire open space.
- Conference room acoustics: to eliminate reverberation, 28 acoustic panels were installed. In the main conference room, a unique composition combining VANK_ELLIPSE BIO LIGHT and BIO DARK was created. This sculptural elliptical mosaic became a defining decorative feature of the interior.
Design: Nature and natural warmth
The project “under the rooftops of Paris” demonstrates an office designed with well-being in mind. Materials from the BIO line, based on renewable resources such as flax and hemp, align with the client’s sustainability strategy. Muted green and beige upholstery tones combined with wooden details create a cohesive and calming environment.
How can VANK solutions support ESG strategy?
The Paris rooftop project clearly shows how office fit-out can become tangible support for companies implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals:
- Environment (E): Using BIO products made from renewable flax and hemp significantly reduces the carbon footprint of the investment. The mobile nature of acoustic booths supports circular economy principles – in case of relocation, VANK booths can be dismantled and reassembled, eliminating construction waste.
- Social (S): Improved acoustics and clearly defined “islands of silence” directly enhance employee well-being. Such solutions also support neurodiverse teams by providing inclusive environments for individuals sensitive to noise.
- Governance (G): Investing in certified, sustainable high-quality solutions reflects responsible resource management and a workplace culture built on accountability.
